How do I get my mid life husband to go to the doctor?

My husband has been going through a mid life crisis. He is depressed withdrawing from me and the kids. No interest in sex either. He still hugs and kisses me every morning before he goes to work but he does sleep in an other room. Help! This has been the hardest thing we have ever been through in our 23 years of marriage. Of course it is all my fault. I have been doing what all the books say living my life but I hate living with a stranger I have asked him to leave but he said he does not want to, I think he needs to be along to figure out what he wants! Help!

Noel's response

I don't know how to get him to go to his doctor, although I definitely think it would be a good idea. It is common for men at midlife to be depressed, and the symptoms of depression in men is different than those in women. (You can see the difference on the 'depression/irritability' page on this website.)

Perhaps if you were able to get him to look at this site, especially the depression page, he would see himself and be willing to take some kind of action. I know it is a difficult situation.
