I feel as though my life is over

The Question

I am 40 and feel my life is over with. I feel like I am just going through the motions. My drive is gone and I feel like it is gone forever. I feel lost and I don't know what to do.
My sex drive is gone, and I feel very very dead inside.
Is this normal?

What you are describing is not uncommon, and as with all things, this too shall pass.

However it sounds as though you may also be depressed, and may need some professional help with that. See your doctor for a full medical, and tell him how you are feeling. He may refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist for therapy and/or medication to help you through.

Needing a bit of psychotherapy at times is not a sign of weakness. It can help you through some of life's rough patches.

I don't just feel like my life is over. I know it is and I'm angry and bummed out. I'm a fifty seven year old white gay male. I moved from the NY metro area seven years ago to the boonies in upstate ny to be closer to my elderly parent.

Turns out she thinks she's the perpetual victim. Hates and distrusts almost everyone. I've been diagnosed with Lymphoma. I chain smoke and can't quit. There aren't any social support groups around here except maybe AA. Can't get Mom to move to where I could maybe get a job and make a living. I'm currently living off my savings and selling my house. Guess where I'm moving to? I'm put a trailer on my mom's property. Downsizing and selling all the things I've collected during my life because I won't have room. On the verge of getting rid of my health insurance too to save.

I'm angry all the time. Think about dying a lot. I've got siblings but we almost never see them. I take my mom shopping and to the doctors appt's. I try to read others post on here but I can't seem to concentrate long enough or have enough interest to get through them. There's a lot more but I think I've said enough.
