Is is normal to lose interest in sex at midlife?

The Question

I'm 39 yrs old my wife is 57.... I love her dearly. We've been married 6 years, and sex does not interest me anymore. I often find excuses not to have sex with her. Is this normal?

Noel's response

I don't know whether there is a 'normal' in feelings about sex, but some men do lose interest in sex around middle age, as do some women. Sometimes medications, such as statins for reducing cholesterol levels, can cause one to lose interest in sex.

If it is not an issue for you or your wife, there is nothing to worry about. However, I would suggest you see your doctor for a complete physical, as a loss of sex drive can sometimes be caused by underlying health issues, such as heart disease.
