Loss Of Memory/Just not being myself?

The Question

Hi to all.

Well I can tell you I am so glad I found your web site. I have been to the doctor at my hospital clinic (2 different doctors) and explained to them that over the past few months I have experienced everything from short term memory loss, mood swings, lack of energy and a host of other things.

Many many tests later did figure out that I had type 2 diabetes, but even with it under control I still have the same problems. Your web site pinpoints many of the problems I am having.

What if any test or tests do you think would be helpful at my age which is 54? What test or tests do you recommend for the unbalanced feeling?

Some doctors don't even seem to want to talk about mid-life crisis issues!

Noel's response

I am not a doctor, so don't know what tests to recommend. You might try a psychologist or psychiatrist, in case they recommend a medication for a while as you go through this transition. You might also get your testosterone levels checked (if you haven't already), as low testosterone can cause some of the symptoms you describe.

Outside of that, trust that this too shall pass.

I am aware that some doctors don't want to talk about midlife issues, or simpy say they don't exist. But they are mistaken, as you and I know :-)
