Midlife is a Relief

by Mark
(Ventura, CA)

When I was a child I wanted to be a great scientist. As the teen years came I changed my mind and made it engineering instead. It simply paid better and I needed to make a living.

I earned a perfect score on the SAT in math. Through my 20’s I was an Electrical Engineer. Through my 30’s I was a Software Engineer. Both were not very rewarding. Now I am 45 and I have a government job.

If it weren’t for this I would be in another trade, probably nursing or auto mechanics. Something they can’t ship off to China or India.

To me mid life was more of a great relief. I had a shot at being something great. Even though it didn’t happen I can look back on my life with no regrets. Most of the people I went to high school with are now gone. They gave into vice and/or violence. I didn’t. Because of this I can die a happy man.
