My older boyfriend

by bailey meeds
(Calgary, Canada)

The Question

My boyfriend is about 14 years older than me. I am 25 and he is 39. We have been together for two years now and lately he has changed a lot. I think he might be going through a mid life crisis.

He has lost interest in doing fun things and is always at home alone and depressed. He says he likes it this way. He also says he is confused and doesn't know if he sees a future with me because he can't help where I am at in my life.

He also said the spark is gone but yet I had to beg him to tell me what's going on. I am a lot younger but I do have a good career and would be ready for marriage in a year or two.

This man is the love of my life and I know I am his but he is so confused. Is he going through a mid life crisis do you think, or is it our big age difference?

Noel's response

It sounds as though your boyfriend is going through a midlife transition/crisis. He is likely questioning everything about his life. You did not cause it, and I doubt that your age difference is the reason for his confusion about his relationship with you.
