What are psychological changes that take place in the midlife?

by Jeffrey
(Philippines)

Question

I am 46 years old...am a teacher. I just notice I'm more irritable and easily get angry now than before except I know I am hypertensive. I would like to know any antidote to this attitude?

Noel's response

Irritability is often a symptom of a midlife transition. In fact it is so common that Jed Diamond wrote a book about it, called "The Irritable Male Syndrome". It is often a symptom of depression in men. You can get more details on my Depression/Irritability page.
