Why am I worrying even more?

by DAVE
(ANNISTON,ALA,U.S.A.)

I thought when I was in my forties I would be on top off the world. Not so. Then I thought maybe the 50's. But more worry and anxiety. I have aches and pains I never thought I would have. I had major back surgery and I have stenosis. Now my hand has terrible carpal tunnel pain and I do not want an operation. I cannot afford to be out of work. I do not want to even think about disability. What can I do to be more positive and enjoy my life?

Noel's response

I can only suggest two things:
1 - for your carpal tunnel, try getting an ergonomic keyboard for your computer. I was getting carpal tunnel symptoms a few years ago, changed to a ergonomic keyboard, and the symptoms went away.

If you already have an ergonomic keyboard, then you might try a physiotherapist or chiropractor in case they can suggest some exercises that would help.

2 - Read Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zin. He ran a chronic pain clinic for many years, and has a totally different approach to managing chronic pain in your life.

If you have a passion, follow it. You will focus less on your pain. You might find some useful exercises on the 'your life mission' link on this website.

Good luck!
