Why do the get depressed?

Why do they have depression after all of the craziness and affairs?

Noel's response

I think it is partly because they thought having an affair would make them happy, and after they have been with the 'new woman' for a while, they realize they are no happier than they were before.

Men often suffer from some form of depression when they are in a midlife transition, as do women in menopause. It is partly hormonal, and partly due to the stage of life where they realize time is passing very quickly, and they have not done or become what they thought they would be this age.
